Seoul City selected Zaha Hadid’s ‘Metonymic Landscape’ as the winner of the international design competition for the Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Park. The ‘Metonymic Landscape’ encompasses the history, culture, environment, and economy of Dongdaemun and creates a subtle harmony between urban design, landscape and architecture.
The Design Plaza is a comprehensive set of specialized facilities for the support of the design industry and covers an area of approximately 893,400 square feet, including the underground cultural plaza. The Design Plaza will be equipped with a multi-purpose exhibition and convention hall, a design exhibition hall, an information training center, a learning center, a digital archive, a museum, and a design, a media lab, and a variety of other facilities.
It will be a global design hub that attracts various national and international design exhibitions resulting in a designrelated network at home and abroad, all while operating a design lab and a cutting-edge design information system. GT was appointed by the client, Seoul City, and the main contractor Samsung Construction to implement a BIM process using Digital Project in the construction phase this project.
